Every October, the BSPA provides scholarships for high school seniors entering college; special consideration given to students of public safety officials.
2018 recipients were Sydni Owens, daughter of Derek Owens, and Arsba Edrington, son of Westley Edrington.
Unique to the 2018 ceremony, the Black Shield Police Association has asked Mrs. Tracy Johnson, widow of Anthony Johnson, to present the awards.
Help us expand the "Anthony Johnson Scholarship Award" to more Cleveland students with your generous donation.
The Black Shield Police Association is a 501(c)(3) providing continuous support for officers in Greater Cleveland - focusing on the unique needs and problems faced by Black and minority officers. We are dedicated to restoring trust, exploring dialogue and empowering the Greater Cleveland community.
Every year in July/August, the BSPA purchases new bookbags and school supplies for students in the Central and Buckeye-Shaker neighborhoods.
The average cost for a typical "back-to-school" middle school student is upwards of $500.*

"BSPA Annual Bookbag Drive" program for young scholars in Cleveland's most vulnerable neighborhoods.

Each year during the holiday season, The Black Shield Police Association purchases art supplies, new books, winter clothing, blankets and coats to distribute to underprivileged children and families in Greater Cleveland.
Furthermore, we adopt three elementary schools (Adalai Stevenson, AJ Rickoff, and Anton Grdina) to distribute holiday gifts, books and toys to Kindergarten and first grade children.
Donations will be accepted in-person at The Shield Club (4097 E. 131st Street) until December 21 and online throughout the year.
100% of all donations go DIRECTLY to families and school children.
